    k and n air filter

I am looking to purchase a new air filter for my 2004 audi a6. I would like to know if these are easy to install if you have no mechanic skills , but are looking to improve preformance and have better sound and would just the filter be enough?

If it is a just a filter replacement, then it is a simple swap for your old paper filter. Easy Peasy

So If I went to the k and n website and searched my car and found the filter and only the filter, it would be enough, or would I need more like air intake, etc

Most of the "cold air" kits are fairly easy to install. Search online and you should be able to find install instructions.

I dont think I would need a cold air intake for a small turbo v6 (300 hp). I just want a new filter to make the engine sound like its bigger hence the new k and n filter, Would a cold air intake provide any benefit for me

Re: k and n air filter

You might be able to pick it up locally. But installation should be straight forward. Locate your filter box, open filter box, replace old filter with new and close the filter box. Your box may have screws, bolts or latches that keep it shut. Just make sure you get a good seal when you close the box. Very simple and should take a novice about 15 minutes. No additional items needed unless you go with a short or long ram intake system.

Absolutely! A simple filter swap will change the sound slightly and flow better. So a filter will help.

But a kit will increase the sound, hp, and performance.

And I have usually got a little better gas mileage as well.

The filter by itself won't provide any change in the sound in my experience. The cold air kit will. I had the set up on my 911 for a short period. It sounded great but caused other issues. A new exhaust system really changed the tone and added the extra horsepower.

So the answer would be that the filter is good enough

Re: k and n air filter

Being a turbo I would think you already have pretty good air flow coming in. I think an exhaust would make a bigger difference. Most of the exhaust systems are extremely easy to install also.
