We use a LOT of fans in the 12,000 sq/ft. garage I work out of...sort of helps, but it's not really "comfortable" per-se. If I have to start working out of my own personal garage though, I'm insulating the walls and putting a window-mount unit in one of the windows to cool it off and a portable heating unit for the winters to warm it up.
That explains a lot. I just finished my car and it was around 80 degree's in my garage and the humidity was approximately 85% outisde. My garage isn't climate controlled, I just close the garage door and try to get some cool air from inside the house. I think I'll look into a window unit.

Perhaps you could plant a bush to hide the window unit.

What if you installed a big-ass exhaust fan in the wall opposite your garage door (doesn't have to be opposite)? Oped the door a bit, turn that bad boy on and it will be moving so much air you'll swear it was AC.

Re: Cooling your garage
I have the same problem. My drive way is about 2.5 car lengths uphill to my garage as my house sits higher then the street. It stays hot in there. I have no windows in the garage outside of the human door leading outside which has a fixed window. So even with the double car door open there is no air movement.
Soak a hand towel in cool water and lay it over your head. Amazing how fast that cools you down.

AC both drys and cools the air it moves. A fan will just move the hot air creating a strong breeze. That will feel refreshing if your standing in its path but wont cool the room.
if I had a window, Id install a window AC.

Obviously a fan does not "cool" like an AC , but I guess it depends on the size of the garage. If you have a large pole barn then good luck cooling it with a window unit. The point of the fan is to get the still, dry air out and circulating new air in. Trust me, it's very nice. But then again, I guess it just all depends. When people say garage I think of my father-in-law's barn (it's the only "garage" I go to) so for a "normal" sized garage, yes window AC. My fault for getting all mixed up lol.
