    Altec vs Weather Tech

Anyone have any feedback on which is the better choice for a license plate cover?

    Re: Altec vs Weather Tech

The Weathertech cover seems to work well but I've only had it a little over one year. Although covers are illegal in just about every state, the plastic is high grade unlike those cheap ones which turn opaque, so I have hope that it should last quite a few more years without going cloudy and getting a police officer hot and bothered. Also the plate fits fine without blocking the Myflorida.com, county, and expiration sticker.

And now that Florida is on a 10 year rolling replacement schedule, a cover seems to make sense if small details like a dingy license plate bother you. With the old 5 year rolling replacement schedule, the plates would be showing their age at the end on a non-garaged vehicle, so I can't imagine how much uglier the plates are going to look after another 5 years of exposure to the elements...

The one thing on the Altec frames that didn't settle with me were the horizontal lines going across the face. Seems like it would draw more attention to the cover, so I went with the Weathertech since it appeared to be less obvious when installed. That was my only justification for picking one over the other

    Thanks Howejt.

Since I am down the road from you in Lake Clarke Shores, maybe I will go with your suggestion.

I've used both and find the Weathertech to be superior. The clear cover holds up better!

WeatherTec is a superior product that will last for years. I use my sealant or 303 periodically for UV. I have one on front & rear. Front has been great for protection of my beloved Auburn Alumni Vanity plate from bugs and stones. Five Star rating IMO!

    Re: Altec vs Weather Tech

I've been thinking about getting the Weather Tech frame but I've put it off because I wondered how hard it is to get those fastener covers off. In Pennsylvania we have a yearly registration sticker that has to be put on the plate and I don't want to fight with the cover every time I have to take it off to put the sticker on.

They pop off easily with a small screwdriver.
