windshield fog
So what is it that causes the windshield to fog up in the morning and continue to fog up after using the wipers. Is it just a layer of gunk that needs to be cleaned off, are the wipers bad, glass need polished?

Re: windshield fog
Mostly it's the difference between the outside temp and the inside that causes fog on the inside. Turning the air condition on with air recirculation on usually helps. Here's an explanation from ehow.

Re: windshield fog
I get this all the time leaving work in the AM. Just a quick shot of the defrost clears it right up.

But this is on the exterior. You run the wipers and it clears right up, but after a few seconds it fogs back up and have to run the wipers again.

That's a problem because the outside air is warmer than the inside air. You don't want to recirculated A/C in this case. Not much to do other than using wipers and not turning A/C on for a while.
I've had the problem before , especially on humid days. It usually goes away pretty fast but it's pretty distracting.

•Water will condense on a surface, if the temperature of that surface:
-Is below the dew point of the air next to that surface.
•You need warm, humid air next to a cooler surface:
In order to "fog up".
•Sounds like your windshield is the cooler surface
in this instance.
-When the windshield surface temperature reaches equilibrium with the outside air's: No more condensation; no more foggy condition!

Re: windshield fog
This is only a problem though with one of the families cars. I've had cars do this as well on me in the past. They have 2 newer cars and then an old g6 and only the g6 windshield is giving them the problems. There other cars don't fog up, just the g6.

•Per my previous posting (#6)...
-Use the below tool to measure the temperature of the G6's windshield.
-Then compare that with the outside atmospheric temperature.
MicroTemp MT-100 Non-Contact Digital Infrared Thermometer

-This is a good starting point for diagnosing this particular fog problem.
Also:
-Don't get too caught-up in this water-condensation-dilemma:
No need for a foggy mountain breakdown!

Re: windshield fog
Lol, I hear you Bob. Just trying to provide answers fir a family whos 16 year old daughter is about to inherit the g6, trying to keep them from purchasing a new windshield. I tried claying, and sealing to maybe help it out, guess that didn't work.
