How to remove baked on brake dust

I have chrome rims that have baked on brake dust.

I've tried everything and nothing helps.

Heres a list of things I've tried.
Meguiars Chrome Cleaner
P21S Gel Spray (did practically nothing!!)
Generic CLR (did seem to help but worried about the long term affects on the metal)



But Yea, any suggestions I'm willing to try at this point.

Hard to say from pics only but almost looks like it could be pitted into the chrome. If this is the case then it's not coming out!

I have had good luck bringing back pretty badly corroded chrome (1974 Honda CB750) using #0000 steel wool and chrome polish. Flitz is also a pretty great polish though I've only used it on aluminum so far.

You could try carpro iron x/trix, sonax full effect or acid though like said some may be pitted into the finish

Ouch. Are you sure those are chrome and are not just polished/clearcoated? What kind of vehicle?

I was thinking the same thing. The way the light is reflecting off the surfaces they look painted/clear coated.

Either way, they look pitted. Someone here might be able to suggest a product to get some of the black material off, but the pitting will remain.

Yes, they are definitely pitted. Which is fine but I would like all the black material off of it.

I believe its an aftermarket RS4 rim. Car is Audi A4 2007.

I'm not 100% sure its chrome but that's what I have been told. How would i know?

You can use an HF/ABF wheel cleaner like Meguiar's Wheel Brightener or Poorboy's Spray & Rinse (although I steer clear of HF/ABF wheel cleaners) or you can try a different acid wheel cleaner like Meg's Gold Class or Valugard Custom Wheel Cleaner.

If I were you I'd try some Griot's Heavy Duty Wheel cleaner--it's going to take a lot of applications though.
