1947 Ford Convertible - January Detailing Boot Camp Class Car

If you're attending my January Detailing Boot Camp Class here is one of the car you'll be working on.

The owner says it has overspray all over it and the paint is filled with swirls and scratches...

One of the things I know it's important to do for any car detailing write-up project in order for it to have real value is to fully document the before condition.

Once in a while there will be someone that thinks the cars we use in videos and articles are in pristine condition to start with and just to make sure there's no doubt at all, I have found the best way to take the wind out of these people's sails is to first and foremost get the before shots.

Once you buff out a car you cannot go back in time and get the before shots. You can always get the after shots but not so for the before shots.

So to document the true condition of the cars my class will be training on here at Autogeek's Detailing Boot Camp, here's the before pictures for this 1947 Ford Convertible which by the way is a very rare car.

Car production in the U.S. didn't start back up until after World War II ended in 1945. That's why you don't see any 1943, 1944, 1945 cars for sale and very very few 1941, 1942 and 1946 and 1947 cars and truck for sale and that's because there were not a lot of these cars built.

Looks pretty good from these angles....

Now I've moved around the car to position the overhead sun so it's shining down on the paint and reflecting back at my camera.

Holograms caused by the improper use of a rotary buffer
The entire car, that is all the exterior body panels are filled with holograms. Plus, there's some type of overspray paint all over the car as it's very rough to the touch.

    3 Dimensional Appearance
In the below pictures you will see a sort of 3 dimensional lines showing up in the swirls, these lines are the actual holograms and they mimic the direction or path the rotating buffing pad was moved over the paint.

The 3 dimensional appearance is much more apparent when you're looking at the paint in person but here's what I was able to capture with my camera.

The holograms were harder to capture on the trunk lid but present all the same.

After the class is over, I'll share the process used, including,

    1. Tools
    2. Pads
    3. Chemicals

I think my class is going to have a lot of fun working on this car PLUS we'll be going over how to clean and then preserve the cloth top using RaggTopp products as well as cleaning, conditioning and protection the leather interior.
