looking for product recommendations

I recently did some paint work on a 2010 Mustang door for a family member. The car is black and he's always complained about all the swirl and light scratches that black tends to show, and when he came to pick up the car, after the paint work, he was floored with the door. Now, as a paint and body guy, I make it a point that when I do panel repairs and blend jobs I match the texture of the original paint as closely as possible to further hide the repair. I will admit, I took this door a bit further and finished it out with almost no texture, hoping that I could hook him on a complete exterior detail. I think it worked, because now he's determined to have me do the rest of the car.

My question is regarding good/best products for a black car. A two or three step system would be good with me. I'm accustomed to using Meguire's Mirror Glaze 85 Diamond Cut Compound 2.0, Mirror Glaze 83 D/A Cleaner Polish and Mirror Glaze 82 Swirl Free Polish all with the approriate pads on one of my DW849's. The only reasons I use these products are because these are the products we used in school and they've never really failed me. I know there are better products out there that produce far better results like the ones I would like to accomplish on this car.

Well, you've already stated that you have a system that works. Are you going to use your rotary for this work? Or do you have a DA also?

Those products are not the latest generation of Meguiar's polishes. Many polishes today (including Meg's) are using a more sophisticated abrasive technology (SMAT) which should allow you to reduce your process to 2 steps from 3.

You could use Meguiar's 105/205, Menzerna FG400/SF4000, and many other combos.

yes, my system works but I was wanting to know what you guys would recommend other than what I'm using. I own 2 DW849s and an early version of the PC 7424, I believe what I have is model 7336. I just feel like I work really hard with these products.

Are you trying to remove defects or orange peel in the factory paint?

As far as defects go, the car is not really bad, just some really noticable orange peel. I would most likely cut the clear with some 3000 grit.

Blow out the pads between sections with your air compressor. This will be much easier than what you have been using.

If you mean this kit, Meguiars DA Microfiber Correction System 5 Inch Starter Kit, paint correction kit, dual action polishing kit yes, that is also going to be very good, but since you seem very experienced at polishing, a lot of people don't like the D301 second step (I happen to like it). But that kit will probably do what you need, the D300 has a bit less cut than the M105 but it has the advantage of a little longer work time and less dust--although 105 doesn't dust so bad with the MF pads IME.

Yes that's the kit I was looking at. What is the life span of the cutting discs, and will they remove a 3k grit sand scratch?
