Please help me end this debate I'm having... with myself...
Hey guys,
I searched and searched and found a lot of information on polishers. I have a few technical questions that I feel like I need to know before purchasing my next polisher.
I currently have a Flex 3401, but there are many times where I find myself wishing I had smaller pads for certain areas. I also do not want to have to switch backing plates every time I need to get in a tighter area..
So... here is my first question... I saw one post saying that the GG3 wasnt a DA polisher but just a random orbital and they purchased it thinking it was DA, and were unhappy when they discovered it was not.
Isnt the GG6 the same way? What are the pros and cons of this compared to the DA that I am used to (Flex 3401)
Here are my options after searching...
Flex 3401 with LC changeable back plate -- 5 inch pads (Dont know if this is small enough pad size for me)
GG3 -- 3 inch pads Is this going to be enough power or deliver results anywhere near the Flex?
GG6 with 3 inch BP -- 4 inch pads Is the random orbital going to be a problem for me? This is my front runner right now..
OR
Have I been searching in the wrong place this whole time and should be looking into a lightweight rotary? Never have used one before but just asking if this would make more sense?
Please help

Well the Griot's is a Dual Action Polisher.
The Dual Action referrers to it spins and random orbits.
I have one of these, they are crap. I break it out if I'm to lazy to change out my 6" backing plate and only have a spot to correct.
Your best option is to get another DA and put a 3" backing plate on it and keep it next to you as you detail.
This is what I do if I'm doing a full correction.
You can get an old Meguiar's G100 for around $80 bucks on slEaze Bay.

Ill take a look at the Megs unit. Was looking to buy something new though not used..
Any other suggestions? I am trying to pull the trigger real soon...I have a 75 Stingray that I am doing in a week that I know I am going to need this.
Thanks as always.

I just use my PC7424XP for 3" and 4" work. No complaints - works great.

If you have air available then pull the trigger on a LHR75. Sweet 3" machine.

I like my pc with a 3.5" bp and 4" pads but sometimes even that isn't small enough for tight places. I hate polishing by hand.

Just to confuse you more, if you use the 4" LC changeable back plate on your 3401, you could use 4" pads, as well as the 5/5.5" pads, without changing the backing plate.
I'm using the 4" CCS pads and the 5" hybrid pads, and they both fit the 4" LC backing plate perfectly.

I dont have air or else I would be all over the little Rupes.
I didnt even think of the PC.. Thanks a lot for the recommendations. Can I use 3 inch and 4 inch pads with the pc on a 3 inch BP?
Trying to get the pads ordered while I am at it.. I was thinking of going with the LC hybrid flat pads. Yay or nay?

I use 3" and 4" flat pads on a 3" bp. Works just fine.
