Spotty Black Window Trim

This is my first post to the forum and I have learned a lot so far. I have been detailing cars for a while, but have just recently decided to use this as an opportunity to generate a little income. I have a few customers under my belt and they are happy.

I plan to take some training along the way, but I also want the business to fund it up front since I don't have $1K+ laying around. I would like to find someplace on the East coast where I could go for a brief orientation to get started and then take the serious 5-day class in about six months or so.

Anyway, I got off on a tangent. My question for today is what to do about the spotty black window trim on my daughter's 2007 Sentra. I searched the forum for a while, but could not find this problem from anyone else.

I tried Mother's back-to-black and Meguiar's restorer. But these spots seem to be more than surface blemishes. Has anyone experienced this before? Is there any way to fix this? I even tried wet-sanding an inconspicous area to see if that would work, but it didn't help much.

Welcome buddy . Do lots of search on here , lots of stuff to learn .

I would try some APC & some quick detailer afterward , might do the job .

Someone will chim in for sure .

The picture is a little vague (veiwing from a IPhone)but as already mentioned try some APC to clean the surface and follow up with a trim restore type product afterwards as APC will most likely strip the surface and dull the finish.

But it also looks like maybe some type of rust fall-out.
Are these spots else where on the vehicle?
If so,I would try a product like IronX to decontaminate the rust/iron spots.

I don't know where any rust would come from. The car is in otherwise great shape. I assume that APC means all purpose cleaner? If so, what is a good one to get?

Rust could come from railroad dust,heavy traffic vehicle's,location's with lot of city buses,ect....all these create fall-out.So when it rains,these iron particles in the air settle down and attach to rain droplets (or are carried by the rain).When the rain evaporates,the fall-out remains.
But as I mentioned,I'm viewing your picture from a I-Phone because I'm on vacation and am not in front of a PC monitor.So I was just speculating it looked like rust fall-out?

APC does equal All Purpose Cleaner.Optimum makes a Excellent product called OPC (Optimum Power Clean).Do a search and you will see it has MANY uses ;-)
But if your looking locally at auto parts store/Wal-Mart ect....Meguiars and DuraGloss also make APC's you can purchase over the counter.

I see a lot of this on trim. I use a strong mix of Meg's APC with stiff brush until I can clean it as good as it'll get.
Then I follow up with two coats of duragloss 531. Usually turns out looking brand new.

I have the same problem. I tried water spot remover, apc and brush, and even polishing it all to no avail.
