It does work. I put the white standard carpet brush on the Griot's 3" Mini Polisher and tested it out on a tire and the tool had no problem rotating and oscillating the brush.
I do think however to use this tool for this purpose is pushing the tool past the limit for what it was designed to do and you're going to wear out the bearings that support the spindle.
You would also need to science out a washer system to better tighten the brush against the spindle due to the design of the back of the brush housing.
Yeah it seems to work just fine as you don't really need to push hard, just use light pressure and let the bristles do all the scrubbing. The problem though is I think it would tax the bearings and wear them out prematurely.
I'd stick with using the full size DA Polishers with the Cyclo Brushes.
