Meguiars Hot Rims vd Detailer Wheel Brightener
I just used Hot Rims on very dirty stock Scion tC rims and was very pleased with the results - using various brushes. The only problem: I can use one bottle for 4 wheels. I could not find it in a gallon size. Hence, this question: is Detailer Wheel Brightener comparable? The price is very competitive.

You are talking about Megs Wheel Brightner I assume? Yes, its a great product and it can be cute down 4:1 so you get 4 gals out of one bottle. And compared to Hot Rims, its a lot stronger and needs less to work with. I can usually use maybe 8 oz on a car and thats kinda on the high side. Its super strong stuff and you should use PPE with it. And make sure your wheels don't have any curb rash on them or else it will get underneath the coating and cause a lot of damage.
For the price and compared to Hot Wheels price point, there really is no comparrison. Hot Wheels is too expensive for my tastes and like you said, you use a lot and its not cost effective.
Also might wanna look into some Iron X for really bad wheels. I'll use it after I knock off the majority of grim with the WB then use a SwissX brush and spray it with some Iron X and work it over the grime that the WB didn't get out. Works wonders on BMW wheels.

My method: APC (1:4) then TRIX for nasty wheels.
If wheels are extremely nasty: APC (1:4), WB, then TRIX.

Yes it is... better actually!
Specially because you're supposed to dilute it 4:1, so you're getting about 16 large bottles out of 1 gallon (if using 32 oz bottles)
So $20 / 16 bottles = $1.25 each bottle.
Hot rims (24oz) sells for $8 each bottle.
And WB is stronger anyways.. If you think it's "too strong", simply dilute it 6:1 or even 8:1...
Another option is Poorboy's Wheel Cleaner, but that one is crazy strong... Even more than WB.

Well, I was at Wal Mart today and their price for the Hot Rims was around $4.50 so I picked up 4 bottles - much cheaper than Auto Zone.
