Brand new car: Polish now? Or wait a few weeks?
Hi all,
Great forum!
I just bought a 2012 MDX for the wife, and it literally came off the delivery truck the day before we took possession of it. I have lightly polished, by hand, some rub marks from the dealer prep, but I'm not sure if I can take a DA polisher to it just yet. What are your thoughts? I've heard the clear coat could still be a little soft, since the paint process is only about two weeks old? So, should I wait a few weeks, or can I gently go at it with the polisher and get her polished and sealed now?
Thanks,

When I brought the TL home, I also hand polished it and called it good . However, my understanding is with the finishes we have today, everything is cured and ready before it leaves the factory. So I would think using your DA would be fine if you want, just remember to start with the least aggressive product to get the job done.

the paint is ready to go right out of the factory since it is baked at such high temps. If it were a repaint then yes, you need to wait at least a month.
You can take a DA to it with no issues at soon as you are able.
I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Most cars are waxed during PDI as part of the procedure anyway. Mine was waxed with 3M paste wax by the dealership it is what VW uses.

I went to town on my car the next day, good hand wash, clay and 3 coats of "Z" and following week had me apply another 3-4 coats, so you could say I'm a fan of knowing what's on the car from day one and yes, I told them to NOT prep the car one bit either.
Congrats on your new ride and welcome to AG
