Oh, and the chlorine affects the coatings but does not remove them.

I don't think CarPro ever tried to push or claim CQuartz is a permanent coating.

Opticoat calls it that (in my opinion for affect) since people won't understand how long it lasts otherwise.

Theres only one permanent thing in this universe so....

Obviously even the car metal on which the paint resides is not permanent.

Now, you guys going back and fourth about the "permanent" paint coatings that can be applied, well, its some good reading but you guys are waaaaaaaay over my head for sure, not that that's a bad thing, I did read and learn something there. I did hear that Optimum has that apply once product but you know what, honestly, who here would "really" want something like that, I mean, what in the hell would we do!

You said it very well man. I mean if you believed all the marketing descriptions of every product that comes out well we would all have nothing to do for fun or for extra cash.

Well, not to hi-jack my own thread but I'm a believer in 10k oil change intervals for sure, my car right now is on its original oil and its got 9200 miles on it, the MM is at 15%, so not sure its going to get to 10k but I know this, the oil is still golden to a point. To go even further, I may run Mobil 1 EP and Royal Purple filter and go 15k on the oil and change the filter out every 7500k.

If that is the argument. I think just about anything claiming to be permanent, is usually taken with a grain of salt. At least that's how I take it. There's no actual permanent coating for paint.

But, I think the word permanent is simply used to really stress the longevity of the product. I also think it sort of throws a warning out there to consumers. That being if they plan on applying the product...don't plan on getting it off so easily.

There has to be some sort of word usage to avoid confusion between wax, sealant, and coatings. Describing coatings as permanent (which not all claim) is a way of doing so.

I feel there was a little back and forth between whether a coating is as permanent as clear coat. That I don't understand...I think the answer is obvious there. No way is a coating going to be as solid as factory clear coat. Similar...maybe. The idea of a coating is to protect the clear coat, much like the clear coat will protect the paint. But a coating will not last as long obviously. But, it will blow away any wax or sealant for sure.

Not trying to get in the middle of anything. Just throwing my pennies in the jar.

Um...clear coat is a permanent paint coating. And we all know that clear coat isnt permanent. Just because it came from the factory shiny does not mean it stays that way. So you're telling me a 60 dollar tube that you wipe on offers more protection than a two part mixed urethane coating that is sprayed on? Can resist gasoline and other solvents?? Come on guys really??? I know most here are really mentally disturbed OCD people disguised as detailers but I really need some other paint and body guys to chime in. An 1800 wax to protect a 1000 paint job.....

Are you serious? A $1000 paint job? IMO if you could find a paint job for 1k, there would be absolutely no reason to protect it, as it would be s^*t anyway!

Not to hijack, but I have 226,000 miles on my 2003 Bonneville, been doing 10,000 mile oil changes on it since I bought it 5 years ago with 125,000 miles. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic and do NOT take it easy onto it... several trips to the drag strip, wide open throttle every time I drive it, taken care of but beat on LOL.


As for the permanent coatings, I think permanent is a little strong of a word to use just for the point that it obviously can't be "permanent" but then again even a permanent marker will fade over time...

Nah, in my original post I was asking about the waxes that cost alot more than $100 a tub, like the ones from Zymol, Chemical guys, etc, that's all. Someone posted something about a permanent coating and it "grew some legs" and a couple guys ran with it, no problem though, I'm not mad about this happening in my own thread, it was some good info and banter.

Since we're taking about 10k oil changes, yeah, many people are going this route nowadays because they're educated on the subject, especially with synthetics. IMO, if you start from your first oil change on a new car especially, the use of synthetics is the best way to go, especially if your running it in the car for 10-15k, and you not only save money, but what the heck, its probably better for the environment. You see, "car guys" are given a bad wrap but we are better for the environment because we use better oils, leave them in longer, change plugs sooner and use K&N filters, thus meaning you're not buying a new filter every 10k and throwing away the old one. When being green makes sense, it ends up making cents too
