    SSR1 destroying my finish?

after so many rave reviews of ssr1 as a finishing polish, i got some along with teh recommended soft green pad to use. i used my 3m swirl remover and ended up with a pretty good finish, some light swirls remained here and there, so i hit the area with some ssr1 and to my dismay the surface ended up worse than when i started. confused i redid the 3m swirl and and tried again with the ssr1 this time different speed on the GG DA, started with a 5 now try a 3, same results - again tried it with 6, same results.

am i doing something wrong - i am trying to follow the instructional videos that are posted on here, and keep getting crap results.

is there a trick to it? ami doing something horribly wrong?

i wish i had a picture of it, but i do not. i am trying to use the stuff i have but every new product i get i continue to return to the 3m swirl remover.

to finish the car with 3m swirl remover on a white pad, shining monkey polish (i have it and want to use it up) on a black pad, PB BH by hand, DP PC by hand and it looks great, a few deeper swirls remain.

whats up with the ssr1, is my bottle defective? am i totally screwing it up? wrong pad, wrong speed? not long enough? too long?

any ideas? would love some help...

Sub'd. I have used SSR1 also and while my results aren't horrible i've been wondering if there could be better techniques to get the finish i'd like...

while i dont have too much experience using SSR1 you might want to try a white pad on speed 5 or 6. Im assuming the speed is similiar to the PC speed setting. you must make sure you've broken down the product enough before wiping so did you cover enough area to let the product properly break down? move your arm speed slower and allow the product to break down.

is breaking down a product only really useful when it's a diminishing abrasive? or does it apply to all abrasives?

i thought i was allowing it to break down, it had just started to dust when i pulled it off, i pulled it off before it dusted and i pulled it off super early - all witht eh same results.

i pulled the pad out of the bag (brand new) put the ssr1 on it, planted it on the surface dragged it across the surface (not on) then started on speed 1/2 covered the area, then cranked it up to 4-5-6 each time. so if that's not prepping hte pad.... then no

    Re: SSR1 destroying my finish?

ive tried using ssr1 by hand before and that wasnt a good idea so ive been abit weary of using it with my PC but as i mentioned before, prep the pad with an detailer spray or even with the SSr1 itself. sorry for the inconvience you're having.

If the problem still exists, try a more powerful polish but lesser than your 3m cut. i have Meguiar's D151 paint reconditioning creme and menzerna power finish 203. they work great imo. good luck. elk
