Riccardo Clay... only in Canada?

Mike... what do you know about this "Canada only" Riccardo Clay?

Here is the caption that comes with it, on another site...

USA Customers: Due to Patent laws in the USA this product can not be shipped to the USA. If you purchase this product the order will be cancelled and refunded automatically. If you have a Canadian address and the intent is not to redistribute back into the USA the product CAN be shipped and used at your Canadian address.

With rules like this, I'm wondering what is so special about this stuff, that I might want to break my Order in two parts, just to get this type of Clay from a Canadian retailer?

I'd just as soon place one order from AUTOGEEK and be done with it.

Why would these guys have Patent Laws that work in the USA ?

Naturally, buying from within Canada might save me some Money, but with our Dollar at par with the US, it's very tempting to stick with the best detailing supply house in North America... and that is AUTOGEEK !

This has to do with the patent held by the makers of claymagic. That they have exclusive rights in the US market. If memory serves me correctly the patent is almost up. I have obtained some of this clay .But I have not used it yet so I can't speak on How well it works yet.

I had some of the yellow and the blue. It was nice clay but nothing (IMO) worth making special arrangements to get. It was real tacky, somewhat sticks to your fingers. That is what I liked about it because it was hard to drop. One day I was using Meg's Hyper Wash as a lube and it was so slick that I dropped the clay ending my experience with Riccardo.

As others have said it is just a patent law issue. It would be an act of patent infringement to sell that clay in the U.S. if it reads on the clay magic patent (which based on the disclaimer it probably does).

OK... but it seems that some Americans are still able to get it (somehow wink, wink)... and are using this product.

While that is true that is also technically patent infringement. However, the rule of thumb in litigation is that you go after the deepest pockets and not your customers. So I doubt that the customers would be sued.

As offered it might not be worth the time and effort to go after the small end user of clay that has infringed on the patent law in the States. Until the patent expires, or presumably someone pays for the use of it, this clay is hard to come by in US in general. (I remember when Pinnacle offered the yellow clay)
