    help! question on waxing

hi, newbie here. i washed and waxed my car the other day. i think i made a mistake in the waxing part. after applying the wax (just cleaner wax with some shine), i noticed that the roof had some splotches which that won't come off when it was time to buff up. i used a microfiber towel for buffing.

do these splotches mean that i used to much wax that dried up? how can i remedy this?

    thanks!

Try spraying the blotches with a QD

Worst Case reprep the area and use a good quality Cleaner Wax and see if it removes the blotches.

You might have applied it too thick, but then again maybe not. Which wax was it? Either way its nothing to be concerned about just spray a little QD (quick detailer) as jpegs said and it will come right off. Next time focus on applying it as thin as humanly possible and that should help prevent it

Seeing this is your first post, to Auto Geek!

As the others have said, you can either go back over those spots with a quick detailer, or you can take some of that same cleaner wax, apply it to the blotchy areas, and then wipe it off while it's still wet. Won't affect your protection at all. Basically, it's using like product to remove like product, if that makes sense.

As someone else mentioned, gently reapply the same product to itself and work it over the affected area and then wipe it all off.

    What are you working on?

Or maybe clear coat failure and the wax filled in the effected area? Does your hood have any rough areas where the clear coat is damaged?

quick detailers and more product indeed work well, just rebuff off immediately.

    Re: help! question on waxing

thanks for the replies and for the warm welcome!

@mike.phillips: are you referring to what car i'm working on? it's an ae101 corolla sedan. white. car is quite old but not beat up.

@trencher7: hmm i'm not sure if there is clearcoat damage already. but this is possible since for a time it had been parked under (though not directly) a tree. but it was enough to get sap on it.

i might have put a little too much wax though... i'll try the "like dissolves like" technique first and see if it works. i have yet to buy QD.
