Wolfgang SiO2 or collonite 845
Hey guys, so I bought a new camry a month ago that's a blue of some kind and I've only hand washed it a few times. I've used meguiars gold class but now I'm thinking of using pinnacle bodywork shampoo and I'm also looking at Wolfgang SiO2 sealant.
I can't use my garage right now because of a project car I have in the garage so I'll have to do this in my driveway. I already have collonite 845 and a porter cable 7424 I normally would use to apply it but would I be better off with the Wolfgang SiO2?
If I wanted to use the Si02 I saw I would need a applicator pad but can I use a pad on my Porter-Cable 7424 to apply it or do I need to apply by hand?
Also, what what towels would you guys recommend to remove the SiO2? Right now I only have my PFM drying towels and don't want to ruin those.
I used to be into this until I sold a car I really liked and then I just stopped detailing my cars. My black SUV needs attention and so does my dark Grey sedan so I'd like to get back into detailing but winter weather doesn't help motivation.
I just want to keep my new car looking good especially since it's a nice blue and I've always had black and silver or gray cars. Plus I'd like to take advantage of the sale going on now from autogeek
Thanks everyone

I really like the Wolfgang SiO2 sealant. Goes on and off real easy. You'll need some panel prep prior to applying it - I have used the Wolfgang version, but I would think any would work. For applicators, I've decided that doing it by hand is easiest as it is near impossible to get it all out of a dual action waxing pad, however I am sure it can be done. For wipe off, I use a good microfiber towel from The Rag Company.

I've used both and would highly recommend the Wolfgang SiO2 Paint Sealant over 845. Both are great sealants, but I found the Wolfgang to last at least a month longer in my conditions (maybe more), and it is far easier to apply and remove. There is no need to keep the Wolfgang warm, and removal is the easiest of any sealant I've every used.
Yes, you can use your PC to apply the Wolfgang. I used a DA polisher to apply it. I used a Lake Country flat black pad and it works great. One thing 845 and the Wolfgang product do have in common is the need for a very thin application. The only way I've found to apply either one thin and evenly is with a DA polisher.
For removal you really don't want to use any type of drying towel and definitely don't want to user your PFM's. I'd recommend the yellow MF towels from Costco, or a similar, soft, general purpose MF towels like you can get in a bundle from somewhere like here at Autogeek or the Rag Company.
The paint on your Camry will be really soft, so just be very careful when buffing out the sealant to prevent any swirls.

I'll get the Si02. I had a feeling it was soft paint..... I also have a flex 3401 so I might get a pad for that one instead to apply this. It's so much nicer to use than my 7424.
Do you think 1 bottle of the Si02 will be enough for my camry? If it's as nice as it sounds I'd like to get enough for my other car (toyota avalon), my suv and probably my son's toyota tacoma too.
Thank you for the advice on the mf towels too. I didn't want to buy some nice expensive mf towels and then throw them away.
I couldn't ask for a better answer. Thank you very much

Wow, that's a pretty good recommendation.

Totally up to you. I actually use my old HF DA polisher for sealants. I have my Griots DA's for polishing work. Why? No particular reason other than a half-hearted attempt to justify keeping it in the garage.

Because the sealant goes on so thin, that bottle will last a really long time. I know I've done a mid-sized SUV, a mid-sized car twice, and at least one other vehicle and I have around 2/3rds of a bottle left.

No need to throw away anything after buffing out the sealant. This isn't like a coating where it hardes in the fabric. Just wash them and use them again. PFM's shouldn't be used because the nap is too long and their too big. Just not the right tool for the job.

I really liked it. Another thing I didn't mention was the beading/sheeting is very coating-like, where 845 offers a very traditional wax-like water behavior.
Here is a review of it I did a few years ago: Durability Test: Wolfgang SiO2 Paint Sealant

Any prep spray should work. I use CaprPro Eraser. Is it mandatory? Not sure. The product info says you should use it, but not sure the impact if it isn't used. Since it's a easy step and I normally have prep spray on hand, I just did it anyway.
I was planning on using my fine griots clay mitt and I normally use the uber rinseless wash to make clay bar lube before I would try to fix paint.
Since I'm not fixing the paint, should I use the clay mitt?
I wouldn't, especially on soft Toyota paint. Using the clay mitt will likely create swirls, even if you try to be careful. If you aren't going to polish, I wouldn't clay.
