New Matte Black Rims - Coat or Not

I have a model y tesla so not much break dust, and was going to get a bottle of mohs to top of some of the PPF panels that are showing less coating, and was wondering if i should bother doing the rims.

I dont want to buy a rim specific coating.

The rims are coming in the mail tomorrow so it will be kinda easy... worth the time?

    My vote is, "yes".

Coating them will make them easier to clean and help keep general road grime and brake dust from getting imbedded in the matte finish of the wheels. I've had satin wheels a couple cars (to include my current one) and it really keeps them looking nice and easy to clean.

Coat them. It will only help with maintenance clean up. Can't help you with mohs on a matte surface as I have never used it on matte anything.

I used mohs on my stealth PPF as its was sold to me with the "its wont make it shiny" which it didnt , and its lasted pretty good for my daily.

My only other option will be to buy PPF evo as ive wanted to try it on my PPF, but which do we think would be better on wheels, my votes going to be mohs.

Re: New Matte Black Rims - Coat or Not

I'm a fan of coating wheels, but not a fan of spending $50+ on a "wheel" specific ceramic coating. Once I'm done coating the car, I hit the (clean) wheels with the applicator and even without adding more serum, it'll still impart protection to the wheels. Any leftover from the little 30 or 50ml bottle could be used to redo the wheels 6 months (or whatever) later.

If not coating the car, and specifically wanting to just do the wheels, it might be smart to buy a product like Cancoat partly due to ease, but also so that you can apply it multiple times as I assume a coating on wheels will degrade much faster than on body paint.

I personally have something very similar to Cancoat, WG's uber ceramic spray, and I'll use that to boost my wheel's coating (left over pure evo) when I notice the wheels no longer beading so aggressively (I decon the wheels every wash). Then I'll wait till I coat the car again (in 2024), and do the wheels again then.

I'll add one more suggestion if you don't wish to buy a wheel coating specific product. You could buy a little (400ml-500ml) bottle of Gyeon Wetcoat or Carpro Hydro and hit the wheels at the end of your wash, as needed.

Wheel coatings such as GYEON Q2 RIM are only like $45. But to your question, if you're just detailing your own single vehicle, yes, you can use other coatings.

I never pay full price. Here and Other well known sites always have 20-25% off sales. One right now has it including shipping.
