iron
I noticed on one of my cars some faint iron particles its on blue paint. I am not seeing it on my other cars. Are some paints more susceptible to iron? Often are you doing iron decontamination?

could be different hardness on the clear coats allowing particles to more easily get embedded.

how often do you use an iron remover? is it harmful to let it go?

Re: iron
I'm in the midwest and use iron remover every spring.
I don't get it on any plastic and use a grout sponge to spread it,in the shade.
Then a soapy wash.
The iron particles gather behind the wheels on the body work which is where our cars start rusting out first.

Usually just for quarterly decon washes.
I wound not say its harmful. I would think it would just build up over time and then a clay would be in order.
I like to keep up on things so to speak. If you notice a vehicles paint getting rough, then iron remover/decon.

Re: iron
About 5-10 years ago I tried iron removers a few times primarily because of all the hype surrounding them that I had read. While they do work at removing the iron particles, I don't currently use them on a regular basis any longer.
In most cases, I feel the use of iron removers to be completely unnecessary and a waste of time and money whenever you will be claying anyways.
I think the biggest reason for the use of iron removers is because of the marketing hype that tells us that they are a necessary step... I feel that to be substantially false.
If you are going to do a thorough job claying, then that will remove any iron particles along with all of the other types of bonded contaminants, rendering the iron remover step as unnecessary.
Take my comments as you may, but they describe my experience and feelings towards iron removers pretty accurately.

Re: iron
I was always led to believe that the iron remover dissolves contamination clay cannot reach. Clay only gets what's on the surface but I guess that's just made up marketing hype.
Treat it like it's the only one in the world.

If you don't clay, then how do you remove the non-iron bonded contaminants?

Exactly! At least that is how I see it.
I don't buy into the claims that iron particles somehow bury themselves into the clear coat. I rather believe that they bond to the surface just like any other contaminant.

Do you wash the vehicle? Cuz that could induce scratches.
