I wouldn't use foam. It will absorb too much of the coating and become saturated really quickly. A lot of product would be lost to the foam and it would get messy pretty quickly.
I'm perfectly happy with the suede swatches/applicator block or the microfiber applicators which have the internal lining to limit absorption. The microfiber applicators are easier to use in general because you don't have to keep track of little fabric swatches and keeping them wrapped around the block properly.

I tried this last week and it worked great with the microfiber towel. It's reusable and nice quality. I wish Coatic made more products.
I also got the Autofiber kit in the smaller size. Haven't tried it for ceramic. I mainly got it to use it for dressing interiors and wash the sheets. Not sure yet how washing them with the Bayer layer in them will work.

Autofiber & Klin are my go to.

Autofiber thins for everything. Did buy some block ones when I stock up in the thin savers on a really good Detail Supply warehouse sale.

I only use foam with Optimum Gloss Coat. I never even thought to try other coatings with foam.
At work, I prefer the suede / foam block. Actually, the swatches Xpel sends with the kits are more like silk sheets. Definitely not "suede." When I had CarPro coatings, I used their microfiber suede swatches with their foam blocks.
I've tried microfiber blocks and didn't like them.

This is my approach too. I'll use whatever comes in the box. I'll use the swatch/block with CarPro offerings and I use the MF blocks that come in the Gyeon coatings. I do have few "Savers" MF blocks I used on a coating I tried once, but actually like the Gyeon blocks more out of the two MF blocks.

Have seen foam applicator inside a Nitrle glove with a cut out microfiber cloth. The glove prevents the coating soaking into the foam applicator and can be reused.
Another is wrapping the foam (think it's foam) applicator in a sandwich bag with a microfiber cloth cut out. I think the bag wouldn't have much give.

That seems like a lot of work and a less than ideal solution to solve a problem easily fixed with a different type of applicator that often comes free in the box with the coating itself.
