    Rupes Mini Polisher issue

I purchased the Rupes system to correct paint on various vehicles but I am having an issue with my Rupes Mini (3 inch pads). I marked the based of the tool with a black marker so I can see the pad spinning and if I put too much proessure, the pad stops spinning. this works great on my 7in Rupes but on the Mini it seems the weight of the tool is enough to stop the pad from spinning. I have to hold the tool just off the paint to get the pad to rotate without being blocked.

Should I contact Rupes? I see there is a washer mod, is that something I should look into with the Mini?

I'd recommend "yes" - contact RUPES. Todd Helme is a great detailer and he used to hang out on this forum and he might have some good tips.

Me? I don't tend to use the Mini myself for the reason's your experiencing. In order to maintain pad rotation here's your best options,

    1: Use a RUPES pad.
2: Turn the speed dial to 11.
3: Mark the sides of the backing plate, (you did this) AND the pads.
4: Spend time with the tool and get a feel for how to hold the TOOL BODY in such a way to maintain pad rotation on the panel you're working. Practice makes perfect, or as perfect as you can get.

There is no shroud on the Mini or the Duetto and thus no need for a washer to space the backing plate away from contact from something that does not exist.
