What do you use for a Detail Prep Wash?
What do you use for a Detail Prep Wash?
What I’m currently using
I just want cleaning.
Most waterless washed leave something behind like polymers or carnauba or glossing agents etc.
Don’t want that- just want cleaning. Remove light dirt, road film etc.

I use CarPro Reset w/ two ounces of apc to 3.5 gallons of water.
I was considering using Klasse AIO in 3.5 gallons of water with normal soap. Do you think this would leave something behind?

Interesting Mike with the BF Glass Cleaner as a prep wash.
I saw an article when Renny Doyle was visiting Norway. He used a synthetic clay block and Sonax Glass Cleaner as clay lube for extra cleaning ability. I tried it and it worked good. It was quite hot outside in the shade when I tried it so needed to use a lot of the glass cleaner. But in better conditions I think it could work pretty good. Was afraid that the clay block would not hold up to the glass cleaner. It did though and the clay block I used was a generic one that useally is rebranded. The car was a VW with the hard paint but did not see any visual clay marring afterwards.

I'm not sure. Never thought of using a cleaner/wax with soap to wash a car?

I used it and shared it as a waterless wash in this thread too, see post #13

Correct.
SONAX recommends their glass cleaner with their clay disc. I LIKE the idea of using glass cleaner for my lube as the "cleaner" is cleaning the paint as the other liquids are lubricating the surface.
When I'm getting a car clean before detailing it, i.e. machine polishing the paint, I just want the product to CLEAN. I don't want it to leave carnauba behind or anything else. Most waterless washes and even ONR leave things behind to protect, or shine the paint. Don't want that. Don't need it. Getting ready to compound the paint, just need it clean.

Me neither, until I read the back of my Klasse AIO bottle all the way down to the bottom and it read:
"• NEVER USE DISH DETERGENT for washing your car. Use a capful of this polish instead. Although you will not have a foamy cleaning solution, dirt will be lifted from your vehicle’s surface."
I have to try this just for kicks to see how it works.

I use CS-II Dewax(acid), ADG F-Bomb(alkaline) for prep wash
Mckee37 N914 for Rinseless
Then solvent/coating prep as a last prep prior to seal

Hey Mike, will BF glass work the same as sonax glass for clay lube too?

I too use the Sonax Glass cleaner and synthetic "mini" towel from Nanoskin. I feel I am getting two things accomplished at once. I am obviously removing the bonded contamination from the paint surface but am also "cleaning" the paint and removing the grime and maybe evening removing the existing wax or sealant etc therefore eliminating the paint prep step. I am happy with the process.

I use it this way with the clay mitts, clay towels and clay pads, (Nanoskin type products.
I have also used it with clay but some clays may not play well with glass cleaners. I felt like the clay I used last with the BF Glass Cleaner, the clay seemed to dissolve a little. I'd have to re-test but I've seen clay dissolve with other products so you need to be sure the clay and any NON recommended clay lube is compatible with the clay itself.
