AIO or Cleaner/Wax Recommendation? For 2018 Lexus GX with 202 Non-metallic black paint?




Anytime I get questions via e-mail, a PM or a FB message I prefer to invest my typing time where

A: It's easier for me to share links, pictures and videos.

B: More people can read and thus benefit from the information. (no just one set of eyeballs)


The reality is, most people that contact me found me via an article I've written or a reply I've written on this forum. The thing is, instead of figuring out that the whole reason they are contacting me is because they found me via an article or answer I wrote on the forum that they to should bring their question to the forum because not only will that help them.... but it will help a future "them". If I answer everything in a private e-mail or other touch point, no one would find and contact me. It's a cycle or pattern that repeats as long as everything is shared in the public domain.

The above is kind of wordy but re-read it slowly and it will make sense.


So I get an e-mail asking,

I’ve been a customer of Autogeek’s for several years and recently purchased a 2018 Lexus GX with the 202 Black Non-Metallic Paint.

I’ve never owned a non-metallic darker colored car before and it’s driving me crazy to maintain a swirl free finish.

It seems if I even look at the car wrong, a new swirl appears…….

I usually used a combo a Meguiars 205 and then follow with the Meguiars Flagship Marine Wax (yes, I feel it provides me the best protection here in the upper midwest with snow, etc).

I would like something in an all in one. Thought of Klasse AIO followed by the Klasse Sealant or Meguiars D151 or Meguiars 166 ??

Any recommendations are appreciated….

Great questions Rich.

The Klasse AIO is non-abrasive so it will not remove swirls and scratches. It's a great light paint cleaner that leaves protection but it offers zero correction ability.


If you want to stick with Meguiar's then I'd recommend the new Meguiar's D166 Polishing Wax simply because it's newer technology.

Well, that was a great experience! I applied by hand, using a Chemical Guys hex logic (white) foam applicator. Very pleased with the cleaning, even completely took out a small scratch on trunk lid.

Had a little dusting, but that was my own fault for applying a little too thick. I sometimes have a little trouble believing how little product I need to add once the applicator becomes saturated (with quite a few products).

Did the whole car, went in for a quick lunch, then came out and started wiping off. Came off very easily, especially where I kept it thin. Not the slickest, but still pretty slick, and very good gloss. Will apply an extender in a few weeks.

Insight I have found on Lexus and Toyota Pure black is that D166 wasn't the best choice. I've tried all kinds of pads and still found micro marring from that product on soft paints like these. HDSpeed and Sonax Cleaner Wax have both performed excellently for me however.
