Re: Vacuum
Ridgid 6.5HP non-detachable. The detachable ones don't have the same suction as the non-detachable. Second choice would be the 6.0HP non-detachable, it is more reasonably priced than the 6.5HP. Stay away from the 5.0HP, not powerful enough.

Re: Vacuum
I was always happy with Craftsman's vacuums back in the 90's. I currently have a small Craftsman that I use to suck up ash from my pellet stove. That vacuum works very well.

I’ve got a Metrovac, but I wouldn’t tell anyone to buy one.

Why? Obviously you have some cons to list... More detail would be helpful.
We've used our metrovac... 4 years running no major issues.
The Pros:
Light weight, easy for Interior Gal to maneuver around the vehicle.
Has great power, and does a great job getting in tight spaces with the different heads.
Can be turned into a blower
Made in USA and has pretty good customer service.
The Cons:
Gets pretty hot. Didn't really notice that until we moved to AZ. Despite it's heat, we've run it in 100+ degree weather without any issues.
Bags fill up fairly quickly but make sure you order some every time you do an AGO order.
The little rivets that old the back door popped off on us once. Metro Vac was quick to send out a replacement back. Sadly that design could use a bit more development.
The wheel and carrier holder bracket adheres the vac via Velcro. I've never had a problem but again, you could have secured it better.
Overall, we enjoy using it.. Mainly because of it's power, weight, and multiple uses and the attachments really get in the tight spots. I also like the smaller easier to manage hose.
Hope this helps!

I use the same one.
