    Tinted Clearcoat

I’m a little confused on this tinted clearcoat? Apparently this is something common on Ford vehicles? I’ve never heard of this. Is there something different needed to correct or polish this paint system? Or a different technique needed to reach a flawless finish?

    Appreciate any feedback.

    Mike

No it’s corrected like normal paint. They just used tinted instead of standard clear as the final effect for the color

Do your test spot to achieve the results you want and move forward

Harder to touch up is the biggest downside

Thank you. I certainly prefer the traditional clear coat.

Never heard of it, but I assume it's simply a form of tri-coat where there is a layer or two of clear coat mixed with dark paint to give it a shaded look. If you have pictures I would love to see how it looks.

As for correction, they very likelly added a regular clear coat layer on top of the tinted one to protect it. So there should be no difference in how you polish it (just like other tri-coats like a pearl or metalic paint).

I'm pretty sure the tri coat colors are not the same as the tinted clear colors. Ford's 2 tri coats that I can think of off the top of my head are white platinum metallic tri-coat and Tangerine Scream (Focus ST). The only tinted clear color I can think of that they have is called ruby red...they actually call it ruby red metallic tinted clear coat.

Here is my 2016 Mustang in Ruby Red with the tinted clear. It's a base coat, tinted clear, and then regular clear.

Great question - lots of confusion... yet I know a guy that has an article on this topics with picture too!
