They make adapters, you can get from Jegs or Summit that will let you attach AOD, or you can get an overdrive unit for the TH400 but I think that would be costly.
I remember reading that you could put a 2004r(I think with an adapter, not sure) but I don't know if it will hold up to the torque.

Now you add an auto trans to the mix and you loose 20-25% off the engine rating, then you figure in wheelbase, rear end gears and tire size and put that on the dyno and you will see what the true hp is. Of course a little tweeking and such and you could have a decent runner. How your car is timed, carb jets etc all can give or take away hp if you do not know what you are doing.
Klasse Act, just go for it. These new cars are pocket rockets compare to the old. He may get you off the line due to torque, which you do not have in car due to your engine size and such. Torque launches the car and Hp keeps it going.
But with your short wheelbase and plus the fact that you are going from a rolling start(I would do 25-35 mph) for your car since that should put you close to banging 2nd really fast whereas if he has a 727 auto and has a 3.08 then it still should be in first which would prevent the auto kickdown working. BUT if he shifts manually then that may be another story.
Heck I don't mess with Wrx's, I can get them off the line but once those babies spool up, they're gone
Its embarrasing but like I said you can't beat new technology.
72 and up was still crank horsepower...just with assories
Gross HP and NET HP are still flywheel/crank
2006 was still net HP BRWHP wasn't measure at factory till later than that

Re: 1970 Buick Grand Sport
As for trans mission's
2004r(has dual bolt pattern) ..brf code has the best factory valve body..but can buy new modified valve body through gbody parts .com
Jake's transmission and extreme transmissions are best rebuilders
Can also get 4l80e with a modified bellhousing
Another option is gear vendors unit

Looks pretty good under those lights Mike, at least from 20 feet away. I'll bet that color will be absolutely stunning when you're done!

Wait until you see the swirl shots....
AND - she's horribly contaminated. Before the owner left, I shared with him the baggie test and how to use detailing clay, this way he could feel the contamination, learn how to properly clay and then feel the results.
Probably do this project on Thursday, maybe tomorrow. It's going to involved timing.
