Re: Be honest - how long would it take you to buff out this car? 1956 Dodge Lancer - Kustom car by Richard Zocchi
Tough to know exactly what I'd use for sure without doing some test spots but my ideal go-to products would be:
- BOSS G21 with BOSS MF pads and Fast Correcting Cream for compounding
- BOSS G21 with CarPro Gloss Pads with Essence
- Reload with MF towels for sealant or CQuartz for coating as LSP
- Rupes Mini and Nano for tight areas as needed
Car has large open panels without a lot of concave areas which should help with time. I'm probably slower than most so I'd guess around 20 hours total.

I'm going to say about 10 hours.
Compound with rotary. Pads and compound unknown. Need a test spot
Finish with Rotary or possibly PC depending on test spot results.
Some hand polishing is definitely required in a few areas from my experience especially around fins.
Wax with PC.
Done!

Since I'm a rookie---I like to take a stab at this.
All I have is the Rupes system and with that I"ll use the whole line.
Rupes 15 mark II
Rupes Blue and White pads
Zephir compound-Blue
Diamond polish-white
Rupes sealant--P808
Estimate to compound---4 1/2 to 5 hours
to polish------- 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours
spray and wipe sealant----40 minutes
Approx total probably be around---9 hours and 45 minutes
Dang---just realized I am slow!!! Grin

Very glad to see the estimates are so high on this. Makes me feel less bad about how long it takes me to do an entire car, usually 1-2 panels at a time.
I think a lot of it has to do with how hard the paint is and what equipment you have. If the paint is hard and has deep swirls, a forced rotation machine or a rotary would likely save a lot of time. I'd be going over the same spots again and again with my GG6. Or this is how it seems to me. Having and using the right tools would cut the time by 50% or more, I would think (relative to only one tool at your disposal).

I'm thinking:
If I could start right this minute...
Is there any particular upcoming
day that the vehicle's owner has
to have it back?

I would budget an honest 16 hours on this car.
Compound with wool and rotary if it's really bad, otherwise G21 with microfiber pads.
Polish with G21, white pads and my latest favorite polish is HD Polish.
Seal with Blackfire AFPP.
Curious to see how you do Mike :-p

Compounding step:
- If using Flex 3401 - about 8 hrs.
- If using Rotary - about 6 hrs.
Polishing step: - about 6 hrs.
For LSP: I would use Pinnacle Liquid Souveran and applying with a PC - about 1 hr.
Total time: about 13-15 hrs.

Ha ha.... way ahead of you...
After the car arrived I wiped it down twice with the Blackfire Crystal Coat Paint Prep
BLACKFIRE Crystal Coat Paint Prep
Then again using the SONAX Glass Cleaner
SONAX Glass Cleaner, Glass Clear, auto glass cleaner
The goal of course was to chemically strip any remaining polishing oils from the 3M Compound so I could capture the swirls with my camera.
Capturing swirls or more specifically in this example, capturing the hologram scratches is a bit tricky because,
- Light colors
- Iridescent Pearl HOK paint
- Metallic
Capturing swirls, scratches and holograms in black is a cake walk compared to this car. Did my best, couldn't fool around with this step all day. Will post sometime, kind of busy around here peparing to announce 2 more Autogeek Roadshow Classes.
