Lots of paint chips on rear side
Hey guys,
need your advice. I gave my car to a friend, received it back with like 20 small chips, and a scratch.
Should I repaint the whole panel, or try to touch up?

What's the deal? Is he at least acknowledging that it happened while he had your car?

He offered to pay for the repaint
But the worst part is that we have no idea what happened. The scratch looks relatively normal, but the chips look like someone has done this near the car.

Re: Lots of paint chips on rear side
The location of the chips is odd. Almost looks like another car spun it's tires in dirt/gravel and peppered the side of your car. It doesn't look like whatever caused the chips came off your tires because a lot of the chips are where the quarter panel curves back in. But the scratches looks like they may have been caused by dirt/gravel coming off your cars tire...
Did he park the anywhere there was quite a bit of loose gravel or really small stones??

Probably the only way to get it looking correct again is a respray. The scratched area is too large for Dr. Colorchip to work. Sorry.

This seams to be the most plausible explanation. He stoped couple of times in diners near the highway.

Sucks to repaint a car with less than 3k miles on it

are you really positive they weren't there before and you are only noticing now because you are looking after he had it?

If it were me, I'll clean it up and run a 2 step polish on it and then reassess what you want to do. If it still bugs
you after the 2 step polish then do a repaint.

Good idea. Will test the new G15.

Yeap, me and my friend washed the car together the day that he took it

diner parking lot sounds about right. Probably some kid trying to show off. You can tell by a couple of those chips that something hit the paint pretty hard. Unfortunately as mentioned a respray is probably going to be the only good permanent fix. I had to have a quarter panel repaired and repainted on my 2010 Camaro SS. It had three stage paint. Fortunately it was a good body shop and they did a great job. Never had any issues in the six years I owned it. It sucks for your friend, but it is what it is.
