    BMW Paint

    Mike, All,
My brother in law owns this car in NY. He says it was covered in pollen so he took it to a detail shop. The result is in the pics. I've not personally seen the car and I know there can be many factors. I know it's a long shot but what could this be? My thought was beginning clear coat failure. Thanks.

Judging by the condition of what you can see of the headlight I'd have to go along and say it's clear coat failure too.

looks like the paint and clear are shallow.looking at pic tree is in the way ,and where the damage is looks like a cloud over the car.If it's not the cloud, then it's paint failure. Those headlamps can use some restoring.

Looks like clear coat failure in the pic? 535 would be my guess, that engine cooks everything!

Thanks. I don't believe it's a cloud. I'll let him know about the headlights.

Good eyes and you know your cars. 535 it is. I asked him if he was aware of the detailer's process and informed him of the paint thickness gauge/meter. Not sure if the engine heat and/or the process is the culprit. Thanks.

    Re: BMW Paint

Additional info. The car sat for 2 weeks outside (after being detailed) and when my bro in law returned he said it looked like pollen or something was on the car. He took it to a detailer again and the result is in the pic. Springtime in NYC. Not sure if this indicates something other than clearcoat failure but thought I'd bring it up again.
