Not able to get Poorboy's Bug Squash in time ...will this work??

I tried to order the PB Bug Squash, but an unexpected expense came up and killed that idea. I have heard that putting fabric softener sheets in a bottle with warm/hot water will create a solution that will soften stuck on bugs and make them easier to remove.

So I was wondering if I made a solution of say a cap full of liquid fabric softener in a 32 oz bottle with hot water would that works as a bug remover, I mean if wet fabric softener sheets work, why wouldn't a stronger liquid solution work?

I am supposed to be going back to the "bug zone" to detail a few cars again tomorrow and am looking for some opinions. After this, maybe I'll be able to buy the actual Bug Squash with the profits from tomorrow's details.

My suggestion is a good scrub pad and really just a good cleaner of any kind. I've never used bug remover, I've mostly just used a waterless wash solution, but letting it soak on with a wet microfibre towel placed over the bugs and letting them dwell for a bit.

In a pinch, I would just use a weakly diluted APC (maybe 10:1) and let it soak for a bit. Just be sure not to let it dry on the paint.
You will probably need to reapply an LSP after, as some APC's will strip wax.

Really all you need is a way to moisten them for a time. I think Mike Phillips has advocated simply a wet towel, lay that on the surface and let it sit for a while. Or maybe he was talking about that for bird poop...or maybe both.

Soaking wet MF works for poop. It'd work for bugs too, but maybe harder to let it sit if the bugs are on the vertical panels.

The trick for me is to use thin MF towels. Wet them in your wash solution, and place them over the 'buggy' areas. Let sit for 5-10 minutes, and clean off the bugs. Often the thin MF towels for the soak are cheap, so I have to remember to get a better towel or mitt to wipe the bugs off.

I seem to remember Mike having a large towel that he draped over the hood so it hung down onto the front of the car onto the vertical grille/bumper area.

You're probably right; I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Given my experience with bug and grime removers, I'm sure a pressure washer would work well for bugs too!

I used apc at 20:1 in the past and let it sit for 2 to 3 mins. I've recently started using mckees waterless wash and it has been great. I try to simplify all the products using if I can because it's really easy to end up with 6 different products when 1 or 2 can easily handle them.

After 2 or 3 mins the bugs come off rather easily.

Before retiring I drove trucks. We just used a car wash brush with hot water, no soap to clean the windshields. Simple and effective unless the bugs have been on there for too long.
