Ceramic coating over clear coat failure
What would happen if you did a paint correction over a car with clear coat failure (spots where clear coat is flaking off) and coat it in opticoat or something similar?
Has anyone ever tried this? Obviously it would not anywhere near as if it were repainted but on neglected cars that aren't worth a repaint and you just want to spruce it up a bit, is this a viable option? Wetting the panel with water brings out the metallic flakes again so that makes me think a ceramic coating can put some life back into the paint.
Curious. Thanks.

Re: Ceramic coating over clear coat failure
I thought I saw someone do this with opticoat when it was first released, I cant find the video and if I could I'll link it?
I hope its okay to link to outside forums... Opti-Coat vs Clear Coat Failure
hope this helps. if it's not cool, mod please remove link, or let me know and I will edit it out.

Exactly the kind of results I'm looking for. Thanks very much Chramiji! Ceramic coatings really do work wonders.

Re: Ceramic coating over clear coat failure
it seems to me that they just made the remaining clear/paint as shiney as possible and then put the coating on there to maintain the finish and slow/stop it from further degradation. I wish I still have all those faded panels for my rx-7s many years ago. I would try and see if polish angel can do the same (since its the most radically different of it's kind of coating). Always curious.
