I I have a pitch black challenger. was driving & a truck kicked up a rock & dinged & chipped my hood. I got a pdr to get the ding out, but I still have the chip to deal with. So, I ordered Dr color chip. When trying to fill the chip, I seemed to go a little too much with the paint cleaning solution & rubbed through the clear coat..now I have a small halo....everything is very glossy, but in the lite you see a very lite halo....can I lightly wet sand it out? or compound it out?....thankyou.....

If it is through the CC it needs to be repainted. IF its just haze you can polish it out. Take it to a body shop imo.

I'm not familiar with the Dr color chip paint cleaning solution, but I would be surprised if using that would cut through the clear.
Like said, pics would help.

I'd say that you are just seeing the ring from where the new paint and the old clear meet. It's a paint chip repair and will always have a ring, or an outline of the area, if you look closely enough. Sanding and polishing may make it less noticeable though.

Boy, that seems like a bad idea. 99.99% of body shops will simply want to repaint it.

Agreed, I use Dr. Color Chip exclusively and have never heard of this. Even on Honda's with soft paint.
It's possible it's marred... I would try doing a 2' x 2' section pass (6 cross hatched patters) with a DA, Cutting Pad and a finishing polish.

Hard to tell without any pics but sounds like the same issue I had with my first attempt with Dr. Color Chip. Try wiping down with IPA and reapplying wax or sealant. If that does not work try buffing it out.

x3 on providing pics. Don't stress though as I've used Dr. Color chip on black and other dark colors with zero issue. If the chip is filled in and level you will likely just be able to polish it out without issue. The only time I wet-sand anything is to level the filled spot in an attempt to hide the defect even more. I'll be doing some work on a Midnight Blue Honda Van later today.....more that is as it's pretty badly chipped. Perhaps I can provide some pics too.

I have been using Dr. CC ever since the product debuted. I have never had this issue. I would like the OP to post some pics also to give us a step by step detailed process of what he does. I am pretty sure it is user error here.

Also 1 thing to note is after you are done using the leveling solution there is a milky haze that is left over. That is completely normal! You can use some quick detailer to get rid of the haze. Or if you rubbed to hard and created some marring you can use a polish to correct.

This is why I recommend these things be handled by a professional. The amount you pay for the service is not only better service for your vehicle and you save time.
