Clear coated with typical waterborne or solvent borne paint? No
Now some people do get their chrome powder coated clear to help maintain the chrome coating. However not all chrome pieces can get away with that ie. Exhaust parts due to the heat.

It's mainly a personal thing. Being in Az. all my chrome is in very good condition and to be honest I am not really a coating fan, at least for now.

Blackfire Metal Sealant, great for chrome or painted wheels.

No worries. I guess I also should have fully explained my previous statement in that carnauba based waxes do work for painted wheels, however I do not like using that kind of coating option when doing wheels that get used often and the owner doesn't really keep up on their maintenance. I typically only do carnauba for wheels on show cars that are looking for that extra shine and luster.
I am a big fan of waxes myself. I always have been. I have been detailing professionally for about 20 years now, and to this day there is nothing quite like laying down a coat of your favorite carnauba. It is something so euphoric for me it is kind of therapeutic in a way. And mind you I have some of the highest end carnaubas in the world. These carnaubas are so good they offer a very long lasting protection as well. With that said, ceramic coatings or nano coatings do offer something that organic based waxes can't. It is the durability and the ability to wash the car with any car shampoo and not worry about the coating deteriorating. For some people that is very important. Ceramic works! I would however, have a professional install it for you.
Btw, technically chrome is a coating lol.
