Clay Lubricant ??

I am confused about the use of an Instant Detailing product as a lubricant when claying a car. Am I wrong in assuming that the product has wax in it? Are you not causing yourself more work, due to having to then remove it, before adding your LSP? Would it not be better to use a mixture of soap and water as a lubricant?

Quick detailers don't have wax in them, spray waxes do. Soap and water can be used, I've never done it, but I use DP rinseless wash and gloss. The dilution ratio for clay lube makes very cost friendly and it works great.

Some quick detailers may contain wax---I've heard rumors that Griot's does. Soap and water will kind of mess with the clay in a negative way. The clay kind of starts to break in little pieces but I've done a vehicle before. I've never experienced this using a QD. I've used Griot's, Meguiar's, and Ultima Waterless Wash Plus to clay with absolutely no issues.

I would shy away from "making" clay lube with soap & water. Your better off buying a dedicated quick detailer like the one from meguiars or mothers showtime, both around 4.99 & available just about anywhere.

If you have ONR, you can also use that to "make" your own clay lube/quick detailer that will be a far better alternative to water & soap IMO.

very affordable and can be diluted to make many different products..no need to have a tonne of stuff laying around...just a jug of ONR and some spray bottles...

What about pinnacle WW? it contains carnuaba in it. I use it as clay lube. Works well though, provides enough gliding for clay. Anyone else used it as clay lube?
