Might want to try running the Carpro denim or velvet orange peel remover pads. I prefer the velvet ones (about 3000 grit). They leave a polished surface. Might not mess with the metallic flake you're worried about.

Honestly the orange peel doesn't bother me that much. Yeah it's unsightly but I can live with until the repaint, sooo much more wrong with the paint than some peel.
