Chrome Window Trim a BIG Problem

    Hello team!

I need help with my window trim.
We bought a car and on one window trim the blue plastic was left behind and it seemed to have stuck to the trim and has been removed just before we picked it up.
in any case that is my assumption since I can see bits of the blue plastic just below the trim and only on one side.
The trim looks oxidized or tarnished there.
    See attached photo.
I tried a light metal polish, ammonia and wd40 and nothing.
do you think this is permanent damage due to the blue protective wrap heating up and sticking to the trim? Or is there a way to get this nice and shiny again without a trip to the dealer?

    thanks in advance!!!!

I would try some HD Speed or Megs 205 on a foam cutting pad w/ a DA. Perhaps a 3" pad.
Worst case scenario is you have them replace the trim.

Agree with Paul on the products to try, but if that is chrome-plated plastic, you may be out of luck.

From your post, it sounds like a brand new car. I'd have the dealer replace the damaged piece(s).
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Chrome Window Trim a BIG Problem

I have a customer who recently bought a 2015 Mercedes with the same problem on his trim. I tried several things, even some acid, and nothing. Talked to a detailer friend of mine with a lot of experience and he said it was anodized trim and there’s not much you can do about it.

Here’s the trim on my customer’s car.

One option is to have it wrapped in silver or black.

Once it goes bad it's game over. You can replace or paint it but you cannot polish it.

I'd wrap that with 3M Dinoc Vinyl. Easy to use, looks great. lasts reasonably well if cared for and not constantly out in sun. I'm planning to do that to the window trim on my BMW. If this is a new car purchase, definitely pressure the dealer to replace the trim. Inspect the new trim if they will let you, just to be sure it's actually better than what you have.
