Should I tip my detailer?
Dropping my car off for an exterior detail at a local shop. It's a professional operation - front desk staff and a handful of employees. Cost is ~$325. Is tipping customary at a place like this? If so, how much?

Re: Should I tip my detailer?
When I detailed for pay I used to get generous tips from my understandably favorite customer
Treat it like it's the only one in the world.

One of the shops I go to is like that and I usually add $20-40 assuming there is one or two guys who worked on it. Basically throwing them each a $20.
I also go to a shop that’s just a guy and his wife. I don’t tip them because everyone goes directly to them. Plus they don’t ever go “above and beyond” and their prices are on the high side to begin with.

Re: Should I tip my detailer?
Back in the 1980s when I was painting cars a customer gave me a $600.00 tip. Tipping was not a regular occurrence but I sure did like that one.
$600.00 back then was probably like $1,500.00 or so today.
I don't remember the cost of the paint job but I'm guessing it was in the 3-5K neighborhood.

Depends for me. If it’s someone’s business and they’re pocketing the pay then I typically don’t. If it is some one working for hourly pay and they’ve done a good job then I will.

I agree with this and a good policy. Also considering the year we have had, the fact so many people are suffering because of loosing jobs, cutbacks in work hours etc., coupled with the higher costs of goods, if one is financially in a good place, I believe tips are even more the responsible thing to do.

I really appreciate all the great responses to my question. I ended up leaving $60.
