I was told that flex is having trouble manufacturing the item, and therefore the possible ship date it Mid-November as they are not coming in until Mid-October.
I have Chris Metcalf on the phone right now as I type.
Both the FLEX XFE Cordless Finisher and ECE Cordless BEAST use the same backing plate, and there was a delay in production not a problem. The backing plates were upgraded to a superior design and "yes" this did cause a delay, but FLEX is past this aspect of producing the backing plates and the new tools are being manufactured at the FLEX facility in Germany.
The first shipment leaving Germany is next week. Figure 2-3 weeks on the water (on a ship), and then they have to go through Customs. Once through Customers, Autogeek will be the first to get the first shipments.
So I realize everyone is excited to get the new FLEX tools and I also realize that everyone has been patient, but the tools are in production and the first shipment leaves Germany next week.
In fact, Chris told me while he's there next week, he'll take a picture of the tools being packed into the shipping totes and send it to me. (I'm also sending him the link to this thread)

It had to be changed. It's not like a group of people sat in a room an found a way to make the design DIFFERENT just to screw people out of being able to use an OLD backing plate on a NEW tool.
Besides the fact that this is normal anytime you improve and upgrade things in the world, (anyone have an old iPhone or iPad that they CANNOT update the software?), backing plates wear out. Specifically the velcro HOOKS on the backing plate wear out. anyone that uses any tool that uses a velcro interface on the backing plate, (about 99.9% of all orbital polishers), has had to, or will need to, at some point throw away the original backing plate and purchase a REPLACEMENT - because everything wears out, even you and I.
Everyone LOVES the new design but it means things have changed. (for the better).
So "no" the original backing plate design for the original design of the FLEX 3401 (with the ALUMINUM SHROUD), will not fit the NEW DESIGN of the new FLEX 3401 with the lightweight, PLASTIC SHROUD.
I'll take pictures to show the differences and I think most people that are FLEX users will agree, the new design is how they say,
New and improved!

Yes!
Chris sent me the photos but I have not been able to upload them to the forum as I’ve been on the set of My Classic Car for the last 2 days and now I’m going through security to fly home.

My limit to add photos via Tapatalk has maxed out, (never had this happen before?)
So I’ve attached the image file via my Safari browser.
Next I’ll try to get the URL code and insert the image to make it easy to see.
