Going through pads like crazy with the rupes 21..

So I've been having a lot of problems with my rupes ruining a lot of my pads(non rupes) mainly all my uber foam, MF, Adams or anything that is not rupes pad will get really hot and burn through the pad, tear the lining, and or sink in the middle of it. Is my rupes running too hot?

I've run pretty much all types of pads on my Rupes 21 and have never had any of those problems.

Are you putting pressure on the Rupes? As you don't need to. You also don't need to do tons of passes.

I warped a buff n shine mf pad on my rupes before, and warped a red lake country waxing pad too.

Also, at Meguiar's TNOG another attendee made a Meguiar's MF cut pad smoke up, the paint was still cool to the touch, but there was literally smoking coming out of the pad, in between the the rupes backing plate and the mf pad.

Wow just yesterday I was cleaning up a side swipe on an AUDI A6 using MEGUAIR'S UC (CARPRO FIXER wasn't cutting) on my FLEX 3401 using (Lake Country Ultra-Fiber Dual Action Microfiber Pads) with pressure when I stopped pad rotation and moved from paint, paint was smoking on speed 6, had me a little nervous but all was well

I believe it's due to the large throw of the machine and the amount of pull it's causing on the Velcro of that pad that is causing the heat build up. This pulling will the cause the glue and foam to heat up like crazy cause the pad to fail.

Remember those pads other than the Rupes weren't designed for that large throw of a machine. If you have the 21 (21 mm throw) your nearly tripling the amount of throw distance from a tradition DA which is only 8mm. The foam, the glue, and the Velcro of the Rupes pads were all designed to account for the large throw and all that comes along with it.

If you YouTube the Detailfest video of Jason Rose and the Meguiars DA system he explains the pull between the backing plate and the Velcro on the pad and why it can cause failure with larger throw machines.

GREAT description of the dynamics and consequences of a larger throw! Thanks.

Searching for the JR video now...

You might try giving the machine and pads a break every 15 minutes or so

most problems people have are due to user error. NO PRESSURE!

Speed 5, No pressure but I may believe it's from continuing use. I don't take any breaks when correcting a car so it tends to get super hot and warp real bad. I guess I'll just use one pad a section, I have tons of rupes pads but they're not that great, personally. Thanks for the info guys.
