Dry Sanding & Wet Sanding with 3M's Flexible Abrasive Hookit Sheets

Dry Sanding & Wet Sanding with 3M's Flexible Abrasive Hookit Sheets

Been waiting for just the right project to test the new 3M Flexible Abrasive Hookit Sheets for dry sanding and wet sanding and that project has arrived.

The finest grit level available at this time is P1500 and you can find all of the 3M Flexible Abrasive Hookit Sheets on the AG store.

Each grit level is color coded to make it easy to quickly identify the sheet you want and to reduce the chance for error in selecting the wrong sheet.

Each box of flexible Abrasive Hookit Sheets comes with foam backing pad.

These new flexible Hookit sheets us an anti-loading technology to help prevent the face of the paper from loading up with paint as fast and as easily as traditional wet/dry sandpaper.

I sanded this section with about 10 back and forth passes and found the #1500 to cut incredibly fast.

Here you can see the orange peel being removed as you look towards the bottom of the picture the orange peel is being removed leaving behind a very flat surface that after compounding and polishing will produce a smooth, high gloss finish with excellent Distinction of Image or DOI.

Here you can see the single stage yellow paint on the face of the Hookit sheet.

A quick wipe with a clean, terry cloth towel and the paint residue wipes almost completely off. You can use compressed air too...

The backside of the flexible Hookit sheets have the micro-loop material..

The flexible backing pad has the micro-hook on both sides...

And as you can see it attaches via the micro-hooks and micro-loops attaching to themselves to affix the sheets to backing pad.

The lower grit Hookit sheets are for prep work to body panels before paint. The #1200 and #1500 sheets are for wet sanding or dry sanding after paint.
