Don't have one, but DID have one.

'66 Westfalia. It was imported by the original owner and I picked it up in '69.

We really liked that thing...it was our introduction to the RV world.

I hear ya about the prices nowadays. Makes me wish I had kept it at times. I think we only paid $500 or so. Which was a bit pricy back then. Even a straight Combi is expensive these days.

Went thru the engine and did some work to increase its' power.

Only 2 complaints...one, the brakes-really left a lot more to be desired! and my back was getting killed by have the 'bus drivers' hump from leaning over the steering wheel.

"They" really had some nice workmanship (fit and finish) in the interior.

Haha, I know what you mean about bus driving! when I looked in this thing I said the same to my friend! haha.

Do you have any old photos? I'd really love to see it!

Regardless of the price and due to the age, surely one would have to know a little something about engines.. and for me, I have no clue so that would probably be more money being spent!

    No pics.

That's not really the true answer, any pictures would be 35mm slides.

A GREAT book about the care and feeding of VDubs is..."How to Keep Your VW Alive" by John Muir. Long out of print but still available, do a Google and it does pop up.

I wonder if all these engines are dubbed with the whole diesel engine scandal right now!

I think (that's the same as, I really don't know) it was only sedans.

I only did a quick read on who, what, where was affected when the news broke.

VW realllllly messed up on this one.

I know a friend who has just canceled a brand new, 65 plate Golf because of it!

    Same thing 'over here'.

As I'm typing this, I'm hearing on the radio that Switzerland has banned the sale of VW diesels because of the emissions mess.

If you go back in time, it was the emission issue(s) that killed the air-cooled engine vehicles.
