What I've been up to this weekend. Pic heavy

Helping a buddy do a trans swap in his '08 Mugen Civic Si. I apologize for the quality of some of these, but many were taken by my 5 year old.

Taking all the plastic crap off!

    Working on dropping the subframe

    <a href="http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj50/dtacker17/Mugen/?action=view&amp;current=IMG_1691.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj50/dtacker17/Mugen/IMG_1691.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We would have had it done tonight, but unfortunately one of his friends that were helping left a few tools behind at the shop he works at and couldn't get them.

Yes that is the FP, clutch is already out. I wish the clutch would have still been here it was toast. My buddy was thinking the problem lied in the trans synchros for 1-3, but the were parts of the pressure plate and clutch missing/broken.

Luckily, he purchased new clutch etc, figured if we're going to pull the trans out, might has well replace all of that too.

Had he been driving it like that or was it something he just bought. Looks like a massive project. Especially without a lift. I'm jealous for sure.

He's been driving it. The previous owner pretty much, well, raped the car at the track. I'll try to remember to get some pictures of the sway bar we took off.

All I have to say is that it is nice to be able to fix your own cars. I can't imagine the cost of that if you took it to a shop…..

It's done! It's finally done! LOL! We got the new trans in last night. Tonight by the time I got home my buddy and his friend had just finished putting the subframe back in when I pulled in the drive. A few hours later he had everything, oh 90% back together and he rolled on out!

You might enjoy taking the old tranny apart to see how everything fits together and works so next time you can consider weighing a rebuild vs. a swap, (or rebuild and/or inspect the junkyard tranny before swap.) There's not really a whole lot to putting new blocking rings in, replacing a worn syncro or two, and installing new seals and bearings. Cleaning the mating surfaces of the case halves is probably the only thing that's not fun, not difficult as those things go, just not fun like playing with the parts. Congrats on getting 'er done! Good way to spend time with your buddies and your little guy.
