The DeWalt DWP849 Has Arrived!
I can't help but get excited when a new polisher is introduced, whether it be a dual action or a rotary. It's always exciting, especially if you're a tool guy that has to have the latest and greatest version of each tool available.
DeWalt recently introduced the new and improved DWP849. The DWP849 is more powerful than its predecessor and also incorporates more user friendly features including the ability to start at a super low 600 RPM.
Features:
• Powerful, 12.0 Amp, all ball-bearing construction for long life
• Electronic control maintains specified speed under load delivering desired finish results
• Conveniently located variable speed dial lets user set maximum speed from 0-600/3500 rpm for different materials and applications
• Variable speed trigger allows user to control speed from 0 to dialed maximum setting
• Heat-treated, precision-cut steel gears for smooth operation
• External brush caps for easy servicing
• Large spindle lock button allows for easy and quick backing plate changes
DWP849 Includes:
• 2 position side handle
• rubber backing pad
Specifications:
Amps 12.0Amps
Max Watts Out 1250W
No Load Speed 0-600 / 0-3,500rpm
Spindle Thread 5/8"-11
Spindle Lock Yes
Tool Length 17.3"
Tool Weight 7.4lbs
Before the pallet was even unloaded, I grabbed one of these bad boys to get a look first hand. At first glimpse it appears to be built to last, but upon grabbing the machine, it feels like a tank. Not one aspect of the design of this polisher was overlooked. It all serves a purpose, and that purpose is to polish!
The polisher features a rugged heavy duty cord that wouldn't look out of place on a washing machine or refrigerator. This cord was designed to send maximum power to the heavy duty 12 amp motor.
The DeWalt DWP849 does not include a hook and loop type backing plate from the factory. The machine was designed to be used with either a 7.5" or 8.5" pad. Here is the backing plate that is included with the machine from the factory.
We recommend either a 6" or 7" Lake Country Rotary Backing Plate to be used with the machine. The 6" backing plate is designed to work with a 7.5" pad and the 7" backing plate is designed to work with an 8.5" pad.
The DWP849 can also be used with 3M, Edge, and Optimum double sided pads. The 3M Quick Release Adapter is also compatible with the machine and makes changing pads quick and easy.

I will be buying this. I didn't buy the new flex with hopes this would deliver. From what I have been hearing its a home run.

What about the DWP849X model? Do you plan to get that one in too or just this model?

Very nice, I wouldn't mind having a nice buffer. If I can find one with a great price. Having a good buffer cuts time and makes a difference on the appearance.
That dewalt has a nice speed selector, others don't offer that much of a range. Very nice indeed.

Yeah, good question. I thought this was the "x" model. The 849X is the one I will buy.

Interesting.... the unit you guys carry doesn't look the same as I've seen other vendors carrying. Guess only the "DWP849X" model has the screens over the air induction vents to prevent wool fibers getting into the intake, the black cushioned grip handle, guard over the buffing head, and bail handle option? Also notice the X model has a hook/loop backing plate from the factory....
Is this unit the one without soft start as well, or does it have soft start?

Now that's interesting. Does the X model look like the pictures from Nick or Shiny Lil Detlr (Charlie)?

Oh? I thought I'd read it would have soft start... guess not.
I noticed another discrepancy on the AG description of the DWP849 they carry versus what we've been hearing:
The DWP849 weighs just 7.4 pounds
Yet on a description of the DWP849X, it says:
Weight is ideal for all polishing applications @ 6.7lbs
Why is the machine AG stocks heavier, I wonder?
