Re: cleaning engine capartment
Cover important electrical Parts
Cover the front windshield / to prevent the Oily water hit the windshield
Pre-spray a mix of Degreaser & Apc / so is not to strong and burn the finish on Plastics
Hood & engine / once pre-spray. you can use a soft brush / then rinse
a good 400psi / 500psi is enough Pressure
you don't need 1000+Psi
once pressure wash / give a Air blow pass. more on the electrical parts / distribuitor.
I use for detail finish / my small Air compressor, detail spray gun + a water based dressing.
this will cover all your small hard to reach areas. & will leave a much better finish / rather than regular hand trigger sprayer for sure.

What do you cover the electrical parts with...? Say, spark plugs and coil packs mounted on top the valve covers?

Re: cleaning engine capartment
I use S100 over a cool engine, a brush sometimes and then a light rinse of water after 5 minutes of it soaking. Comes out looking fantastic with little to no scrubbing and NO water spots! It's good for an entire motorcycle and you know those have lots of chrome. I get my stuff at the local Harley dealership, but this is it...
Simply spray S100 Total Cycle Cleaner, s100 motorcycle cleaner, total bike cleaner, spray bike cleaner
My next thing to get is a Tornador. I've used my buddy's in tight area's, wire loom, and electronics. It's a beast under the hood and in the interior!
My engine bay for reference, but I've cleaned dirty engine bays that way too.
