Procedure
Prep Stage
Wash wheel complete with Brown Royal
Scrub tire with Soap and Water and rinse well
Use lacquer thinner on shop towel to strip sealants and waxes for entire wheel
Using 400 grit remove all defects using the sanding sponges
Mark each site with masking tape, so don't forget where they are when painting
Using 1200 grit sand off any areas that will get clear coat over spray-do whole wheel if not sure
Rinse with of water and dry with shop towel
Blow dry the tire where it meets the bead
Masking
Blow dry the bead area where rubber meets rim
Put 1.5" wide tape along bead area using Plastic Putty Knife to seat down under the rim edge
Tape off air valve
Add masking film to 1.5" taped area
Mask off between sheets of film and around tire (you are not spraying the backside but the front must be completely covered)
The Silver metallic particles will get everywhere, so make sure completely sealed
Painting Stage
Temperature 60°F-70°F and Humidity under 70% (50% - 60% ideal)
Wipe with Tack Cloth
No Filler Primer used as Single Stage paint seems to cover well and can be sanded after 45 minutes
Did not want to risk getting primer on spots from over spray and then have to make sure get with the Silver
Apply 2 medium coats of Wurth Silver to damage areas only - 10 minute flash time between coats- Tack Cloth between coats very important
Mark defect areas on the masking film if not intending to clear whole wheel (I drew an arrow to each spoke that was being spot sprayed)
Wait 45 minutes and lightly wet sand 1200 grit rough areas-Tack Cloth identifies areas
(Wurth Silver leaves dry metallic particles on most surfaces - use Tack Cloth to identify where sanding needed
Apply 2 medium coats of Wurth Clear Lacquer 15 minute flash time between coats-Tack Cloth between coats
(I have a lot of paint on from winter restoration and light sanding is all that’s needed)
Inspect for missed spots and decide if 2 coats are sufficient for your tastes
Leave the masking tape on until after compounding
Let dry for 24 hours before compounding
Post Painted Stage
Used the Rupes Nano 1" Blue Coarse Pad on Rotary Tool with Blue Compound to do entire wheel (barrels too)
The Nano is perfect for this type of polishing, except the Rotary Tool slings product all over the place (that is why I left the masking tape on it)
If when polishing you find an area that needs redoing you can do it now Wurth Silver followed by Clear and polish again next day
Used the Rupes Nano 1" Yellow Polishing Pad on Rotary Tool with Yellow Polish to finish
Wait 7 Days before wax or sealant (GTehniq C5 Wheel Armour is planned)
Maintenance is wash with Optimum No Rinse Wash & Shine and apply 10% Permanon solution (similar to Hydro2)
