Ya I know what you mean with the curb rash. lol. I know they are safe for clear coated wheels, just didn't think you could use them on bare alum/alloy.

I like megs wheel bright for the most part, sometimes I get a little clouding/oxidization on some wheels but it def does its job with the nasty stuff. I use it on bmw wheels then hit up with some iron x after the nasty stuff is gone.

Get IronX, you can use it on the exterior too.
Cheaper wheel cleaner would be Brown Royal(high alkaline) and Wheel Brightener(acidic), BR can clean tires too.

Make sure you wear glove and mask.

IronX GEL + Meguiar's Wheel Brightener will destroy any brake dust or the wheel if you use it on the wrong type of wheel! lol Its what I use when I encounter the wheels with years of baked on break dust.

    Ron,

I was waiting to see when someone would chime in on Meguiar's Wheel Brightener, I'm just surprised it took 15 posts....

I don't have any experience with the Megs Wheel Brightener - but I will definitely add it to my next AG order.

is it me or are the badly burned on brake dust issues are only on GM wheels? i had a grand prix that had burned on break dust but i cant say how i remove it as it was before i was into detailing so yeah it was a harsh method ill say that much...try the wheel bright should work if no exposed aluminum is present.

Almost feels like heresy to post this here but I have had great results with oven cleaner on baked on brake dust on my wheels. No kidding.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Sprays on as a foam so it stays put. I have left it on for several minutes without any bad effects. I have spent hours and hours trying to remove some baked on brake dust with as many products as are available and I am not kidding when I say this stuff works.
