Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

SameGuy, I have an unrelated but kinda related question. Is it law in Canada that you must have actual snow tires during the winter?

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

Only in Quebec. In fact, it's the only jurisdiction in the Americas with such a law. From December 15 to March 15 every winter, any car that regularly drives on Quebec roads must be equipped with real snow/winter tires bearing the "mountain-snowflake" symbol. Before the law came into effect in 2009 it was estimated that around 90% of Quebeckers used snow tires in winter, but in urban centers the percentage was closer to 50. In the first five years with the law, estimates put winter tire use close to 98% (there are exemptions, including one for snowbirds driving to or from Quebec between the dates). And in that time the number of serious accidents (fatal or serious injury) has dropped by 37%, with an even bigger drop in urban centers.

Sorry to continue the off topic, where I live in bc it's law October 1st to April 1st must have snowflake tires, they just eased up on the law and now accept M&S tires.

I'm gonna have to try this tire coating, I've been using opti bond too long haha

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

Is that BC-wide, or only in certain mountainous districts (Coastals or Rockies)? Like the chains laws in the Sierras in the US?

Ah. Never mind. Yeah, it's only on posted sections of certain highways in the mountains. Here it's province-wide, urban or rural.

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

No problem going off topic, I grew up in Detroit and thought I heard that's the law up there, guess its only in Quebec.

I'm pretty sure the TW tire coating has to be applied in warmer weather, so you guys up in Canada will be good people to ask when applying it now. I have an underground parking spot so it stays warm enough now and should be warm enough when I get my tires, just trying to figure out between the new Michelin AS3's or get the new Blizzak WS80 on my stock wheels and then go a little "cheap" and get these General S-03's I've been reading about, thus having 2 tires. I thought about seperate wheels but that would mean needing new TPMS and special lugs, thus meaning less mod money in the spring, we'll see!

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

The WS80s are supposed to continue to offer Blizzak's incredible ice gripping abilities, while improving wear characteristics. My first set of Blizzaks about 15 years ago didn't even last one winter, but saved my life.

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

I have the X-Ice 2 Michelin on both our cars during winter. Pretty good tires probably last year for one of the sets they have been in service for like 4 winters maybe.

I have had a few others over the years some cars just are plain better in the snow slush and ice than others. That's what nice about tire racks test is they are on the same car

I would consider blizzak or x-ice when replacement arrive but the continental also test well

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

Maybe we should start a winter tire thread in the auto-talk forum?

I'm going into my fourth winter on Nokian Hakaapelliitaa 5 studdables (no studs, though) with maybe 50% tread left. I do about 5-6000 miles a winter on mostly cleared roads, so the wear is about as good as I've ever experienced for a snow tire. These tires are exceptional in all true winter conditions, but also surprisingly good on cleared (wet or dry) winter pavement.

Re: Coated my tires today and WOW,

I want Nokians but they're not offered in my size so I'll be getting the Blizzaks
