(Need Pro Advice) Door Jams with Interior Detail?
Do you guys always include a thorough cleaning of the door jams with an interior detail, or should that be an upcharge?
I usually include it, but it's a pain, uses a lot of degreaser a gets the exterior wet, which usually forces me to wash the car.
I always do door jams on a full detail, standard. That won't change.

It really depends... I do include the door sill plates... if the jams are taking away from the detail, I hit them with my steamer. It's quick and easy and it's another way I "Over Deliver" to my customers.

Man, you're right. They really can take away from the detail if you don't do them.

I typically do them. I look at it like this, When you wash and wax-you do the inside and outside windows right? you dont want finger prints ruining how that looks. just the same you dont want dirty jams ruining all that hard work you just put in on the interior right?

This is something you should be going over with the customer BEFORE the detail, if not, IMO, your on the hook to do them because after doing the interior the jams really stand out. If you clean them out and have to wash the car on just an interior detail, again, IMO, your doing "the right thing" right there but you should also mention that to the customer, you may get paid for the exterior wash or tipped better, just my .02 cents worth.

You guys are right. It's always better to over deliver. I think I'll just keep doing them standard. I may even think about raising my price slightly to include a basic wash of the outside. I won't mention that I do it, but the customer will be happy to see the jams are clean and they've received a "free" basic wash.

While my menu states "wiped down" on some packages and "thoroughly cleaned" on others, it's something that you need to go over with the customer. Keeping in mind that a hundred happy customers might not say anything to anyone, but ONE unhappy one will probably tell a hundred others.
