Difference Between Black & Red Pads for Applying Wax

Descriptions of the black & red pads both indicate suitable to apply waxes and sealants, although descriptions of the black also indicate polishes as well, so my question is, under what circumstances would one choose one over the other? Specifically using a Flex 3401 with hybrid pads. thank you.

Some prefer the black pad because it's more dense than the red pad. The theory is that it offers better control.

I prefer the red pad myself. I find it spreads a thinner coat of wax/sealant on the surface.

i have used both for applying sealent and liquid wax. i perfer the black, it is slightly stiffer and doesn't "flop" around when applying wax with a machine.

As stated before I will usually use the red pad for paste waxes. I like to save my black pads for fine finishing polishes especially with delicate black cars or cars with soft clear coats.
