    Lightbulb Advice On Smaller Pads

    Hey Guys

Right now I am mostly using 3M Perfect-It system for serious paint correction with their 8" pads -

3M Perfect-It Plus Foam Compounding Pad 8 inches, apply rubbing compound, 3m buffing pads
3M Perfect-It Plus Foam Polishing Pad 8 inches, car polishing pad, buffing pad
3M Perfect-It Plus Ultrafina Foam Polishing Pad, ultra fine polishing pad, foam buffing pads, 3M Perfect It pads

I'm currently using Meguairs 2.0 7" pads for smaller areas as I like how I can used them for both rotary and DA work but the problems is they don't last very long. They seem to start tearing up after just a few jobs with the rotary.

So I'd like some advice on some smaller pads that I can use with the 3M polishes but that are most durable than the Megs. Preferable a 4-6" pads that can be used with both DA and Rotary.

    Thanks Much

Lake Country makes a few different pads that have good longevity.
I prefer smaller sizes like 5" but even 6" is going to seem like a big difference.

have you looked at the new Megs pads? They are supposed to wear like iron.

No problem using the 3M with smaller pads. In the UK the 3M pads are 6" but I have also used 5" and spot pads as well. The polish works best with a rotary, it can work with a DA but it is harder work and the quality is a little lower

    Re: Advice On Smaller Pads

Yeah I found the 3M polishes don't work very well with the DA, except I like to use the Ultrafina on a Megs finishing pad to tackle holograms in soft, troublesome paint. But I usually switch off to a Meguairs product for DA work. I use to do Demos at the bodyshops for 3M so I've ALLOT of practice with the rotary so its my go to tool but there are some situations where the DA is better.

But I do definitely need a more sturdy small pad to use with the rotary. The Lake Country pads look good but the description says the 4" - 6.5" pads are for DA and the 7.5", 8.5" are for rotary. Anyone have experience using the smaller pads with a rotary? Like this one for instance? -

I only use 5.5 LC pads on my rotary. Have for years and they work perfectly fine. I have lately switched over to the LC hybrid 5" pads and love them even more!
